Spectrum Worldwide and Canon present: A Taste of Le Tour
A Taste of Le Tour, an exclusive photo exhibition by Russel Wong and presented by Canon and Spectrum Worldwide, officially launched at Millenia Walk today. The 25 images taken over a period of five years are a selection of his work, capturing the world’s best cyclists in the most infamous cycling event amongst some breathtaking scenery.
The works of world-renowned photographer Wong that have never been seen in Singapore before, will initially be housed at the Great Hall in Millenia Walk from 20-25 February before moving into the Mall’s South Galleria 2 from February 26 to March 4. From there they will be transported to the F1 Pit Building and stand as one of the centre pieces to the OCBC Cycle Singapore 2010 Cycling and Lifestyle Village.
"I am delighted to be working with Canon and Spectrum Worldwide on my latest exhibition in Singapore. Cycling is one of my biggest passions and over the years I have been fortunate enough to capture some of the best riders as they strive for success on the toughest road race ever. My collection gives everyone a chance to see the riders up-close and generate some excitement ahead of OCBC Cycle Singapore where they can take their own shots of the action on the track,” commented Wong at the official launch event.
Guest of Honour for the launch event was the French Ambassador, Olivier Caron who was joined by Chris Robb, Managing Director of Spectrum Worldwide and Andrew Koh, Director & General manager, Canon, Singapore on a tour of the exhibition.Robb said, “Tonight’s launch of ‘A Taste of le Tour’ is a first for any sporting event in Singapore and it is a wonderful to be working with Russel and Canon on this exhibition. By extending the cycling passion of OCBC Cycle Singapore beyond the event weekend and the sports realm, we are able to attract a wider audience and show people the magic of cycling through the visual arts. Come 6 and 7 March, we hope that many supporters and spectators will join us at the F1 Pit building to witness the fast-paced action in person, and enjoy taking their own photographs of some of the top professional cyclists competing.”
Andrew Koh of Canon echoed Robb’s comments saying, “Canon have worked with Russel for many years and he is one of the top photographers around. His works on display tonight give the public a small taste of his talent and the wonderful events and places he has shot over the years. Cycling is a great sport to capture on film and we at Canon look forward to joining everyone at OCBC Cycle Singapore to catch the action for ourselves.”
Charities will play a strong part in the event this year with the Singapore Children’s Society (SCS) and the National Cancer Centre Research Foundation (NCCRF) being named as the chosen charities. One of Russel Wong’s photographs will be auctioned off for charity online starting today, February 19. Additional to this great item, a Lance Armstrong signed jersey will also be up for grabs online and will be on display at Millenia Walk for people to check out before placing their bid.
On Saturday 6 March, more than 50 children from SCS will take part in the Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km), and a special Cycle of Hope will take place for all cancer survivors and their supporters over two distances of 2.5km and 5km. To support the cancer message and one of the world’s most famous survivors – Lance Armstrong – the participants of the children’s rides and Cycle of Hope will receive a LIVESTRONG wristband in their cycle pack.
